Portraits of the Israeli Hostages

On October 7th, 2023, the world watched in horror as Hamas murdered countless civilians and abducted over 200 innocent civilians from Israel. Today, over 100 of those innocent civilians remain trapped in Gaza in abhorrent conditions. As the conflict continues, the hostages seem to have faded from the limelight.

Over the past two weeks, I resolved to paint all of the remaining hostages in order to spread awareness. While it is uncertain how many hostages remain alive, we can continue to hope and pray. I used bright backgrounds to reflect a sense of hope and gold backgrounds to commemorate those who were murdered and whose bodies have not been returned to Israel. **Update: Since May, 4 hostages were rescued by the IDF. Tragically, many more hostages have been discovered to have been murdered by Hamas. Most have not been returned to Israel for proper burial and are still held hostage in Gaza.
